The second part of a two-part series focused on women’s leadership in higher education, this webinar problematizes the uncritical way in which gender equality is sometimes discussed within the sector. Although discussions around the need for greater representation of women in senior leadership roles are vital, it is equally important to disaggregate statistics and grapple with the multiple layers of disadvantage facing aspiring women leaders around the world. Even in contexts where women are now more likely to hold leadership positions within higher education than was previously the case, it remains unusual for women holding other marginalized identities to succeed in doing so. It also remains less likely for women to lead higher prestige institutions and to hold higher-prestige leadership roles.

This webinar will engage with this important dimension of the broader debates around women’s leadership in global higher education and also highlight some of the possibilities inherent in engaging more explicitly with these differences.

The work presented in this webinar – published as an International Brief for Higher Education Leaders – was coordinated by the Boston College Center for International Higher Education and funded through a generous grant from the American Council for Education.

This webinar is being co-hosted by CGHE and the Center for International Higher Education.
