How can FE address the demand for digital skills?

Professor Diana Laurillard has co-authored a Government Office for Science report on the rising demand for digital skills in the UK.

The report discusses how the further education sector can adapt to address this demand. It looks in particular at new learning methods, upskilling the teaching workforce and improved approaches to teaching.

The researchers highlight the fact that England and Northern Ireland are below the OECD average for digital skills related to work. Blended learning methods to upskill teachers and assist them to update their teaching approach could enable the UK to improve its relative position internationally.

The report recommends investing in the use of digital learning innovations by teaching professionals to develop, test, peer review, publish and share their effective practices.

The report was commissioned as part of the Foresight Future of skills and lifelong learning project.
