This webinar considers the radical changes in higher education caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic and outlines ways in which the University has been re-imagined as a result. Based on the recently published volume “Building the Post Pandemic University: imagining, contesting and materializing higher education futures” (Edward Elgar Press 2023), the talk will cover how massive disruptions in the higher education sector have prompted a re-imagining of its pedagogical and socio-political functions, led to a rise in contentious politics in and around the university, and a materialization of new policies, institutional and managerial changes.

Mark A. Carrigan is a Lecturer in Education at the University of Manchester where he is programme director for the MA Digital Technologies, Communication and Education (DTCE) and co-lead of the DTCE Research and Scholarship group.
Hannah Moscovitz is Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Danish School of Education, Aarhus University. Hannah’s research is focused on the territorial politics of higher education, touching on themes related to regionalism, minority nationalism and federalism and their intersection with higher education policy and governance.
Michele Martini is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Faculty of Communication, Culture and Society of USI, Università della Svizzera Italiana. Within the field of computational social science, Michele’s research is primarily focused on the development of methods for the analysis of unstructured datasets such as texts, videos, images and user interfaces.
Susan L. Roberston is Professor of Sociology of Education. Until recently, she was Head of the Faculty of Education at the University of Cambridge, and held the Chair in Sociology of Education. She is currently a Fellow of Wolfson College, Cambridge, Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Aarhus, and Adjunct Professor at the University of Toronto.
