CGHE Webinar

Student experiences in and toward elite higher education

Date: Tuesday, 13 October 2026 2:00 pm to Tuesday, 3 November 2026 3:00 pm

This CGHE webinar seminar series brings together senior and early career researchers to examine the promises and limits of elite higher education. Across four sessions, the series explores student experience, social mobility, institutional practice and educational aspiration across the UK, the US and Colombia.

The series brings together work on campus employment and classed opportunities at Harvard; students’ perceptions of merit and educational opportunity at Oxford; intergenerational hope and aspirations among British Pakistani and British Bangladeshi students and their families in relation to Oxbridge; and the costs and opportunities of social mobility through elite education in segregated Colombian society. Together, the series invites critical reflection on how educational opportunities are imagined, distributed and lived across different social and institutional contexts.
