CGHE Autumn School 2025: Epistemic injustice, policy repair

CGHE is holding its first residential Early Career Researcher Autumn school, to be held from 10-12 September 2025 at Oxford’s Education Department. It is aimed at those who have completed their PhD within the last three years, and who are working towards a permanent academic post. It is organised in conjunction with CGHE partners Hang Seng University of Hong Kong and AMCHES (Ali Mazrui Centre for Higher Education Studies) at the University of Johannesburg.

Places are reserved for postdoctoral HE researchers who are within three years of doctoral graduation, and who do not hold a permanent academic position. Priority will be given to those affiliated with cognate higher education research centres or programmes and those whose research addresses questions of equity and epistemic justice. The Autumn school will seek to ensure a diverse representation of researchers from all global regions. Numbers are strictly limited to 20 to maximise dialogue and debate.

The programme includes

• Talks by leading HE researchers, including Arathi Sriprakash, Rachel Brooks, Ka Ho Mok and Melanie Walker
• Research ‘sandpits’ exploring inequalities, equity and epistemic justice across global higher education
• Workshops on grant-writing, publishing, knowledge exchange and policy engagement
• Cohort building with other ECRs
• An Uncomfortable Oxford tour
• Conversations and networking with peers, CGHE colleagues and senior HE researchers

Costs: £120 (with bursaries available for the unemployed and those based in LMICs), includes lunch, dinner and refreshments, plus a full programme of workshops and events.
