Professor Jan McArthur
Jan McArthur is a CGHE Deputy Director, and was a Co-Investigator on CGHE Project 1, ‘Graduate Experiences of Employability and Knowledge (GEEK) Project’.
Jan is Professor in Higher Education and Social Justice, in the School of Social Sciences at Lancaster University. Her research focuses on the intersection of social justice, the purposes of higher education, and everyday practices of teaching, learning and assessment. She is particularly known for her work on Assessment for Social Justice, exploring ways to make assessment more just, for students, staff and the society in which higher education is situated. Her work uses the critical theory of the Frankfurt School, in particular first generation Horkheimer and Adorno, and third generation Honneth and Fraser.
